Say, are you in the mood for dancing? Shaking your body until you can no longer stand and fall in a heap on the floor, exhausted, but entirely pleased with yourself?
Well, I suppose the answer doesn’t matter much, because after you hear Van Hechter’s brand new single, you’ll be dancing regardless of mood. It’s just that powerful. But don’t let it fool you. It comes on simple enough. You know, a looping beat, a rhythmic chorus that he sings again and again and again. And you think ‘I’m not gonna get sucked into this’.
But you do.
You end up dancing regardless of your location. At the very least, you’ll be tapping your foot and shaking your head. At the very least.
“The Delight”, this little gem we’ve been talking about features an exciting new collab with New York artist and activist Chauncey Dandridge. The two worked together on a New Year’s Eve party, at the end of 2019, doing a duet of “53 Christopher Street”, a sweet homage to the Stonewall Inn at the Stonewall Inn. Cool, huh?
Anyway, back to our song, which is called, yeah, you heard it right, “The Delight”.
What is the delight? We don’t know. Maybe we weren’t paying too much attention because we were so busy dancing. Maybe it’s whatever we want it to be.
However, one thing is certain – it will get you up and “dancing in the moonlight”, as the song itself invites you to do. I don’t know about you, but it’s been a while since I danced in the moonlight, and if there’s anything that’s gonna get me to do it, it’s this song.
The DJ-ing on Dandridge’s part follows an obsessive pattern, and with it, he will lead you astray, a bit like the Pied Piper. Yeah, this song is basically The Pied Piper meets that unique ‘80s disco sound. And it is glorious.
Not convinced? We’re sorry. We’re not Van Hechter. Maybe it’s the charm we’re missing. Maybe it’s the strangely warm yet distant voice. Whatever it is, please don’t let it put you off listening to “The Delight” because this song is here to stay, and you’ll be kicking yourself in the shin for missing it.
Or… you know, listening to it a bit later than the others.
Who is Van Hechter? Good question. If this is your first time hearing about it, shame on you. No, we’re kidding. It’s good you’re here. Better late than never, we always say.
Van Hechter is a French-Georgian artist living in Montreal. After studying literature, drama and opera in college, he decided to dedicate his years to the one thing that makes him happy like nothing else, singing, and has been doing it ever since.
His songs are witty and at times political, but always infused with a clear sharpness of character, as well as an evident love for music.
A song that begins with the pitter-patter of rain drops on your windowsill. Already an evocative picture that makes you think of sitting by the phone, waiting for your loved one to call, perhaps after an argument.
A feeling we’ve all gone through, at some point in our lives, and one that emerging artist SheIsL1 sums up perfectly in her brand new track ‘Love Surrender’.
Her voice, quiet as a whisper, sidles up your ears and entices you to listen. Maybe lean in a little, so as to hear her better. With SheIsL1, you’re always getting the feeling she’s just getting ready to whisper a little secret into your ear and you’re constantly trying to be ready for it.
Strangely enough, the secret itself never arrives, but what does come is a four minute track that blasts you with a wide mix of feelings. It’s sexy, sure, that’s obvious from the first beat of the song, from SheIsL1’s slinky, seductive voice. But it’s not just that. It’s also secretive, creating this unique, intimate atmosphere, making you feel as if it’s just you two here, conversing, and not you listening to your Spotify playlist.
‘Love Surrender’ captures the delectable intimacy of love, and though there are many (too many, sometimes) songs that deal with the complicated matter of love, few actually manage to embody it so well.
There is also something fearful inside this track, as if she’d afraid to confide in you. Afraid of getting caught, of being hurt or perhaps vulnerable, that’s up to the listener’s interpretation, but one thing is certain and that is, the song is filled with emotion. Passion. Feeling. Something so rare on the music scene these days.
Though young, SheIsL1 has already managed to make quite a name for herself, rapidly gathering quite a following for herself, with albums like ‘Cosmic Love’ (2018), ‘Meditation’ (2019) and now, her latest album ‘Love Surrender’ (2020), fresh out of the studio!
Fast-rising Ghanaian artist and Big Drama Army front liner Max Mannie has released his highly anticipated single titled SIKASEM. The well arranged track is produced by K.C beatz
The international hip-hop scene is booming. While some rappers and beat producers live the dream of a fame, others are unfortunately somewhat rooted in the underground. However, the latter does not apply to the American rapper, songwriter and beat producer Igor . Known for his singles Ghost In Your Wallet or Wi-Fi Love , the rapper, who is moving away from the image of the classic gangster rap , is just doing his Star Dust World Tour and is dropping with Keep It Green via the RoyalGooseRecords label .
