Experience the power of Tchaikovsky’s best-loved opera in the grand surroundings of the Royal Opera House with the latest staging of Eugene Onegin.
Dmitri Hvorostovsky takes on the title role, with Artur Ruciński stepping in for the last two performances, alongside rising star Nicole Car as Tatyana in this moving masterpiece of love, selfishness and longing. Based on Alexander Pushkin’s verse novel, the opera is sung in Russian with English surtitles.
When Tatyana first meets the handsome, yet unconventional Onegin, she falls in love with him. But Onegin rejects her and flirts instead with her sister Olga, whose fiancé Lensky is also Onegin’s best friend. Furious, Lensky challenges Onegin to a duel, but loses his life. Overwhelmed by guilt, Onegin leaves to travel the world. When he returns to Russia, he finds Tatyana married to a prince. Realising that he has fallen for her, it is now his turn to be rejected by the one he loves.
