Some 5,000 homes and businesses hit by floods in Cumbria and Lancashire are to be given relief from council tax and business rates, the government says.
Storm Desmond battered north-west England, as well as parts of Northern Ireland, north Wales and southern Scotland, over the weekend.
Power has been restored to all but about 1,000 homes in Cumbria.
But emergency services remain on “high alert” because of the possibility of further wet weather in the coming days.
