A man has admitted murdering a teenage girl who was stabbed after a night out with friends 32 years ago.
Melanie Road, 17, was attacked as she made her way home from a club in Bath in June 1984.
Christopher Hampton had been due to stand trial at Bristol Crown Court on Monday after originally denying murder.
Hampton, 64, was caught in 2015 after police matched DNA from Melanie’s clothing to a member of Hampton’s family on the national database.
The father of three, from Fishponds, Bristol, will be sentenced shortly.
Melanie had gone out with her boyfriend and friends to the Beau Nash, a nightclub in Kingston Parade.
She left the club at 01:30 BST on 9 June and was last seen alive by her friends a short time later in Broad Street.
Her body was found in front of some garages.
