NEW EP by KESIWA POET
My name is Kesiwa and I am a writer.
Last summer I wrote and performed a set of pieces based on my relationship with my father and the evolution of it. I have recorded these pieces and put them together into an EP entitled ‘2.14am’.
My reason for writing this set was to counter the often negative portrayal of fatherhood especially in the black community. I have been blessed with a father who has not shirked from his responsibility, for lack of better words. My father is my greatest role model and I felt it was important to relay the message that fathers shape young women both in presence and in absence.
‘2.14am’ is backed by jazz instrumentals, a genre of music shared and loved by my father and I. It is a journey of growth and learning who I am, and who my father has shaped me to be.
2.14am was released on Father’s Day in honor of not just my father but all fathers and father figures who have shaped men and women.
