The crisis in steel prices is being blamed on a surplus of cheap Chinese product on the world market
The government has announced a financial package of “up to £80m” to support SSI workers on Teesside.
It comes in the wake of Monday’s announcement of the mothballing of the Redcar steel plant, with the loss of 1,700 jobs.
The full details are still being worked through, but it will include funding for affected workers to train at local further education colleges.
There will also be help for small local businesses.
