It has only been in recent months that revenge porn has been recognised by law as a deceitful sex crime. So what exactly is revenge porn you may ask? Well it is pretty simple, it is when sexually explicit images or videos are shared publicly without the consent of the individual pictured.
Such acts are becoming more common with ex partners, whom when a relationship turns sour in a desperate act to seek revenge will upload the explicit content on social media sites. In some cases they may even go a few steps further and upload it on pornography sites for millions of people to potentially view.
In regards to the latter this was evident when 24 year old Anisha from New Jersey, was shocked to find the explicit ‘selfies’ she privately sent to her ex-boyfriend whilst they were in a relationship went viral.
Consequently, the pictures appeared on over 200 pornography sites along with other private details such as her Facebook account details and email address. This led to her ex-boyfriend being sentenced to six months in prison. However, it could be argued that she needs to be more responsible for her own action and with trust being a keyword within any relationship, even more so when spouses are concerned. Some will say she got what she rightly deserved.
