The first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be unveiled later.
Director JJ Abrams told fans on Twitter they would be given an 88-second glimpse of the new film.
The trailer will be shown in selected cinemas in the US before Dreamworks’ latest animation Penguins of Madagascar and also on iTunes’ movie trailer website.
The film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 18 December 2015.
Fans will be eagerly awaiting the first look at the latest instalment of the franchise.
According to Time, one cinema in Austin, Texas, will host the trailer in a separate standalone screening and play it 17 consecutive times.
Each screening will be followed by two minutes of discussion by a panel of Star Wars experts to dissect the 88 seconds of film.
It remains to be seen how much of the film will be revealed however, as the first teaser trailer for Abrams’ Star Trek reboot only featured the USS Enterprise.
The seventh instalment of the sci-fi saga is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.
The film sees a new cast including Daisy Ridley and John Boyega joining original cast members Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.
