Sam Smith (left) and Ed Sheeran had the two bestseller albums on 2014 in the UK
Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran are expected to dominate nominations for the Brit Awards when they are revealed later.
Smith, whose hit singles include Stay With Me and Not The Only One, is likely to be up for four prizes, including best breakthrough and best album.
Sheeran, whose second album, x, was last year’s best-seller, could scoop three nominations, including best single for Thinking Out Loud.
The shortlists will be unveiled in London shortly after 18:00 GMT.
Potential nominees Jessie Ware, FKA Twigs and Clean Bandit are playing at the launch event, which will be screened at 22:40 on ITV.
They will be joined by singer-songwriter James Bay, who has already won the Critics’ Choice award for emerging artists.
Royal Blood, who will play at February’s ceremony, are a shoo-in for best album
Other musicians expected to feature in the 2015 nominations include Brighton’s Royal Blood, whose self-titled album became the fastest-selling British rock debut in three years.
Deep-voiced songwriter George Ezra should also pick up citations for best British male and best album.
And Taylor Swift, whose 1989 marked the completion of her shift from country music to pop, is a sure bet in the best international female category.
Previous Brits winners, including Beyonce, Damon Albarn, Coldplay, Paolo Nutini and Annie Lennox are also likely to be recognised – while the outstanding contribution prize could be dusted off for Kate Bush, after her successful stage return last year.
This year’s ceremony takes place at London’s O2 Arena on 25 February.
I’m A Celebrity… stars Ant and Dec will replace James Corden as hosts, while Swift, Sheeran, Smith and Paloma Faith are all set to perform.
