In December 2008, Schultz lost his leg in a snowmobiel competition. Schultz was soon fitted with a prosthesis, but he knew that his new knee wasn't going to survive high-impact activity, so he decided to build himself a better leg. Seven months after losing his leg, Schultz and his self built leg entered the Moto X Racing Adaptive and won silver. The next year, the X Games added Adaptive SnoCross and Schultz took home the gold.

A father built a prosthetic hand for his 12-year-old son using a 3-D printer. Paul McCarthy made the inexpensive yet functional prosthetic hand for his son Leon, who was born without fingers on one of his hands. The design relies on wrist movement. Downward motion creates cable tension which closes the fingers while an upwards motion opens them.
