Two girls who were among a group of pedestrians struck by a car in Birmingham have died in hospital.
Four children and a woman were hit near the junction of Grove Lane and Antrobus Road in Handsworth on Sunday.
“Two girls aged six and seven were taken to hospital but despite the best efforts of medical staff died shortly after,” police said.
A girl of 12 and a boy, 13, are being treated for serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
The woman, who is 39, is in a critical condition, a police spokesman added.
A 34-year-old man arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving remains in police custody.
