A quarter of the world's 4,000 mammal species are under threat of extinction in the next 30 years. Many scientists predict we could be living in a world without elephants, rhinos, and lions within a quarter of a century. Gorillas are also facing extinction as they are hunted for meat, and their habitats are destroyed by timber and mining operations.

2. Fingers That Store Digital Files

When Finnish programmer Jerry Jalava had a motorcycle accident in 2008 and lost a finger, one surgeon joked that Jalava should go out and buy a "USB finger drive." He decided to go ahead and actually build a prosthetic finger that contains two gigabytes of digital storage. He can now jack his finger into a computer just by peeling back the nail to expose the USB plug.

The biggest company working on this concept is google. There are cars already with all sorts of perks that will be needed eventually to have cars drive themselves entirely. We predict this one to happen soon. Robots will be MUCH better drivers than we are and it would be a "fix" for drunk driving as well.

5. Albino Chameleon

This is so ironic and sad! Chameleons are known for their ability to change colors but like almost every other animal species some of them are born as albino's. We wonder if these unlucky chameleons still think they are working their magic, when they are really not changing colors. The albino gets picked up by a hawk for instance and while he is being eaten the last thing going through his mind is: WTF, why didn't that work?!

4. Longshot…

It's no white lie: Two lobstermen in Maine caught a pair of rare albino lobsters within a week recently. The Portland Press Herald reports Bret Philbrick caught the curious crustacean off of Owls Head and Joe Bates caught one off the Rockland breakwater days within a week from one another. Albino lobsters are believed to be about one in 100 million.

3. Snowflake the gorilla

Snowflake the gorilla arrived at the Barcelona Zoo in the mid '60s to great fanfare, including an official reception thrown by the mayor of the city. Snowflake was captured by a farmer in Equatorial Guinea. Snowflake found his way to the Barcelona zoo where he settled into a comfortable life. He went on to father 22 babies, none of which were albino. Snowflake died of skin cancer in 2003.

Claude is an 18 year old 9.5 foot albino alligator and is the main attraction at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.

Migaloo the albino humpback is well-known in Australia where he regularly travels along the country's east coast during migration season. He was first spotted in 1991. Migaloo is the world’s only known albino humpback. He has been seen nearly every year since his discovery!

5. The 301+ Count

We have all seen this. A video gets stuck at 301 views and stays there for a while. Why? 301+ appears when the video accumulates enough views to merit YouTube taking a closer look to ensure that they’re all real. Why 301? This is simply an idiosyncrasy dating back to the early days of YouTube. When the code was written to dictate when the views should be analyzed in more detail, a ‘less than or equal to sign’ was used, instead of less than.

4. The Creators

YouTube was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim in 2005. The three founders knew each other from working together at another Internet startup, PayPal. When the trio was bought out of PayPal by E-bay, the trio used some of that money to fund YouTube.

3. The first YouTube Video

The first video to ever be uploaded to YouTube isn't a classic by any means. Shot by Yakov Lapitsky at the San Diego Zoo it shows co-founder Jawed Karim in front of the elephant enclosure going on about long trunks. It has, nonetheless, racked up millions and millions of views! That other video you see is our own first video. We are not proud of it, but if you click it you can check it out and find out for yourself that we have come a long way… 😉

2. Most viewed and Biggest Channel

"Gangnam Style” by Psy is the most viewed video on YouTube with over 2 BILLION(!) views when this video was created. Almost twice as much as "Baby" by Justin Bieber, which comes in second. The biggest channel is called "music", an auto-generated channel by YouTube.

1. The Idea

As with a lot of good inventions. The idea of YouTube was the solution to 2 problems the creators ran into. The first was Karim's inability to find footage online of Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction," during the 2004 Super bowl and the second when Hurley and Chen were unable to share video footage of a dinner party due to e-mail attachment limitations… When we found out about this one we were mostly surprised that YouTube is only 10 years old!
